Our search for the ideal shoulder flash

In November of 2003, a decision was made to have a new shoulder flash designed to commemorate our 50th anniversary. Here's the one we've used for many years:
The contest was open to all youth of 1st Woodlawn Group. The flash is to be a semicircle, 3 inches in diameter, and depict the theme of our anniversary.

After several designs were received, we decided on one. Scouter Don MacMillan fixed up the artwork a bit, and sent it away to be made into what you see below.

All this time, the winning entry, and therefore the name of its designer, were kept a secret. But on the morning of April 15th, 2004, we received our order of completed flashes from the supplier. The long period of secrecy was now over. A plaque showing the anniversary shoulder flash had already been engraved with the youth's name, so now it could finally be presented to the lucky contest winner. The presentation was made at the April 15th/2004 meeting of 1st Woodlawn A Troop.

Designer: Jeremy Burton, 1st Woodlawn A Troop
We ordered only a relatively small number of this shoulder flash - enough for present needs during our anniversary year.

From 2005 on, the flash will be without the number 50, as shown here:
